Remove Unused Clips from DaVinci Resolve – Quick Tip

There’s no shame in admitting that sometimes your project management falls below standard, especially when a deadline is looming. Clips are imported without much care, which can quickly overwhelm your media pool.

Previously, there wasn’t an inherent way to clean up the media pool outside of creating a smart bin:

  • To do this, you would add a smart bin and filter the clips by setting the usage to under one.
  • This would display all the clips imported into the file that had not been used within the project.

However, with recent updates to DaVinci Resolve, there’s now a dedicated button to clean up your media pool:

  1. Go to the Media Pool.
  2. Select the ellipses (three dots) in the upper corner.
  3. Scroll down and choose “Remove Unused Clips”.

This will remove all unused clips from the media pool across the entire project.
Note: This action only applies within DaVinci Resolve—it won’t delete any files from your hard drive.
