Venturing into the mystical realms of otherworldly deserts, Alien Dunes is a trio of royalty-free tracks that marks the newest addition to the IndieTips store. Alien Dunes offers a mysterious and textural exploration of sand dunes and desert landscapes—both haunting and dreamlike—that can be used in your upcoming video projects. Whether you’re creating a short film set in a futuristic desert dimension, a video project that needs ominous background music, or a trailer for your next big project, this trio will certainly ignite your creative energy.
Alien Dunes heavily features grainy textures, reminiscent of sweeping sand in the wind and moments of tension with mysterious growls that linger beneath the layers of sound. From a sound design perspective, I wanted to add movement to the sand sounds by using LFO tools and leveraging the stereo image to give the impression of sand surrounding the listener.
Each track has its soundworld: The Blistering Suns is a hazy yet haunting track that sits between dream state and reality. The Desert Worms is composed of fluttering sand textures, accompanied by a deep and dense orchestration of lower strings, bass synths, choral textures, and monster-like sound effects. Finally, The Sand Dunes is a cinematic and mystical track with an eerie vocal lead intertwined with stuttering sand textures, choral drones, and bass strings.
You can preview the three tracks below.
Hans Zimmer’s soundtrack for his latest movie Dune: Part Two inspired these tracks. His deep drone textures, brooding strings, and sandy soundscapes were exciting to explore. Zimmer’s use of percussion and sound design was also a major influence, adding to the distinct atmosphere of the world of Arrakis. In Alien Dunes, the goal was to create an auditory experience reminiscent of an unearthly land with unknown threats brooding beneath the surface.
